New for Autumn 2020!

Online workshops

Enhance your history topic with an online workshop for your class

If you're looking for another way to bring your history topic to life in your school, we now offer online workshops via zoom with our historical characters.

Each call lasts for 60 minutes and is aimed at primary schools. The calls are with Emma, a qualified and experienced primary teacher, who will appear as one of the historical characters from her workshops. In true Magic Door style, expect opportunities for historical problem-solving, role-play and storytelling!

Schools can choose from one of these historical eras:

  • World War 2 - based on our Feeding the Nation workshop, meet our Land Girl, a member of the Women's Land Army, working hard to win the Battle of Supplies. She can talk to your class about how she was recruited, her training and life on the rural Home Front, and what it is like to work in what had been a man's role. She'll share fascinating artefacts from the time and answer your questions about the WLA and the Home Front.

  • Anglo-Saxons - based on our Tales and Treasures workshop, meet our Anglian woman, living in 7th century Mercia. She can talk to your class about everyday life, including food, games and clothing and the role of storytelling and treasures. She'll share amazing artefacts and answer your questions about life in the 7 kingdoms.
